Cochlear Implants
Cochlear implants are a surgical treatment option for individuals with certain types of hearing loss who no longer benefit from traditional hearing aids. Unlike hearing aids, which amplify sound, cochlear implants bypass the damaged parts of the inner ear and directly stimulate the hearing nerve using electrical signals.
Cochlear Implant Services
Candidacy for a cochlear implant is determined through a comprehensive evaluation, which may be recommended based on the results of a diagnostic hearing test. This candidacy assessment is offered at both our Campbell and Fairview offices. The evaluation is conducted in a sound booth using soundfield speakers while patients wear properly programmed and verified hearing aids. This ensures the most accurate assessment of how well current hearing technology is helping with speech understanding. During the evaluation appointment, patients will have the opportunity to learn more about cochlear
implants, ask questions, and discuss next steps. If candidacy criteria are met, we can coordinate a referral to a cochlear implant surgeon — though moving forward with surgery is always the patient’s decision. Following implantation, cochlear implant activation and ongoing programming (also known as “mapping”) are provided at both our Campbell and Fairview locations. Our goal is to support patients throughout the entire cochlear implant journey, from evaluation to long-term follow-up care.
